Labor To Review Strike Action Next Week -NLC President

The President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba, has said the organisation will, by the middle of next week, review the indefinite nationwide strike action it declared on Tuesday night if the government is willing to open more windows of dialogue. He made this known on Thursday morning while speaking on Political Platform, a Ray Power FM programme, which was monitored in Abuja. Wabba explained that the NLC leadership will convene another meeting to review and assess the impact of the industrial action and see if the government will change its decision to raise the pump price of petrol to N145.00 per litre. The NLC President described as untrue the speculation that the organisation has been invited to another round of talks with the Federal Government, saying the NLC and the government maintain the positions they held before the strike. FG releases N13bn to NYSC

The Federal Government has released about N13bn to the National Youth Service Corps to assist the agency to pay the outstanding allowances of corps members. With this development, the NYSC can now proceed with the mobilisation of prospective corps members in the country. Our correspondent learnt that corps members and the NYSC workers had been jubilating since the news got to them. The spokesperson for the NYSC, Mrs. Abosede Aderibigbe, confirmed the release of the N13bn in an interview with The PUNCH on Tuesday in Abuja. I slept with 400 men in five months – 22-year -old trafficking victim

A human trafficking victim, Love John, says she slept with more than 400 men in less than five months in the Sango Ota area of Ogun State. Love, 22, and her 23-year-old sister, Happiness, were lured into prostitution sometime in January by their eldest sister, Mary. Mary also tricked a cousin, Joy Lawrence, 25, promising the three ladies that she could give them jobs that would help them make a decent living. However, by the time they discovered that they had been trafficked, the victims said they had become trapped. PUNCH Metro learnt that Lawrence and another victim fled the hotel on Monday when they could no longer bear the pain they were subjected to. Lawrence was reported to have been brought to the Lagos zonal headquarters of the Nigeria Immigration Service, which then stormed the hotel and rescued other victims. SaharaReporters has obtained a photograph of 19-year old Amina Ali Mkeki, one of the Chibok girls infamously kidnapped by Boko Haram in 2014 when she was 17 years old. Amina was rescued near the Sambisa Forest, government sources and activists told SaharaReporters earlier today. Amina was found in the Kulakeita area in the company of her Boko Haram husband, now identified as Mohammed Hayatu, and was immediately rescued by members of the local vigilante task force then handed her over to Nigerian troops in Damboa. She reportedly told the soldiers that six of the girls have died while the others have been married off to Boko Haram commanders, and that they were all still in Sambisa Forest as of the time of her rescue. Blood Bath: 40 Vehicles Burnt In Lagos Mayhem

No fewer than  40 vehicles have been burnt in the clash between Yorubas and Igbos in Mushin area of Lagos as the army and police moved in the quell the violence. LEADERSHIP learnt that there was blood bath as over 15 people were injured in the fracas that left  Odushina, by Oloje; Dramola Street, Olapeju, Oshoro, Akinwunmi and Ladipo Market deserted. It was gathered that residents in the affected areas have fled to avoid being caught in the mayhem. To this end, the streets have been deserted as police and men of the OP-MESSA took over. Nigerians reject Labour move against pump price

Nigerians from diverse groups on Thursday, rejected the call by the country's organized labour to mobilize against the new pump price. Rather, the labour is urged to focus on its agitation for minimum wage increase, instead of a new pump price, which Nigerians according to them have been indirectly contending with since the fuel scarcity began four months ago. In a current affairs radio programme, "Day Break show on Rocky City FM" monitored in Abeokuta, on Thursday, about 80% of the callers rejected the agitation by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to protest against removal of the subsidy, while 20 % said they were ready to join the protest. Presidency breaks silence, explains hike in fuel price

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has released a statement explaining the rationale for the new fuel pricing and supply framework introduced by the Federal Government on Wednesday. The new deregulation policy saw the price of petrol skyrocketing from N86 per litre to N145. The statement, personally signed by Mr. Osinbajo, is the first explanation by the presidency since the policy took effect midweek. In the statement, entitled, “The Fuel Pricing Debate: Our Story”, Mr. Osinbajo said he had followed the various observations about the fuel pricing regime and the attendant issues generated but that as far as the presidency was concerned, what was most important is how to shield the poor from the worst effects of the policy. “I will hopefully address that in another note,” he said. According reports, the industrial action has grounded activities within the campus and its environs. Yahaya Bello Shuns National Assembly, Signs N99.9bn Kogi Budget Into Law

Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi state, on Monday signed into law an appropriation bill of N99.99 billion, disregarding the directive of the national assembly that he should send the budget for approval. The budget comprised N41.71 billion as capital and N58.228 billion as recurrent expenditure. Assenting to the bill in Lokoja, Bello described the bill as budget of change and promised its full implementation. According to him, a budget monitoring implementation committee will be set up to coordinate and monitor its full implementation. He said that government was fully aware of the implication of the drop in the allocation from the Federation Account. He said the state Internal Revenue Service had been directed to embark on aggressive revenue collection to address the shortfall.
