President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) yesterday, reassured Nigerians that the incoming government of All Progressives Congress, APC, will not fail them. Buhari, who hosted a delegation from Taraba State, also said by the end of his tenure in 2019, Nigerians would be confident of a society where elections would be free, fair and credible. Also, to underscore his inclination to the rule of law, the President-elect directed security personnel attached to his convoy to always heed traffic regulations and stop at red lights.

The Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala on Wednesday cleared the FG of blame over the inability of some state governments to pay their workers’ salaries. Okonjo-Iweala, in a statement by her Special Adviser on Communications, Paul Nwabuikwu said the governors of such states should be blamed for the development in their states because they were told through the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee to make the issue of wage a priority. Nigerian workers of China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) at the ongoing N29 billion Ikorodu Road reconstruction project, yesterday, protested alleged anti-labour practices by the company and unwillingness of the company to pay disengaged employees their entitlements. The aggrieved workers, who carried placards, chanted protest songs in front of the CCECC office at Majidun area of Ikorodu, Lagos, as early as 10:00 am, yesterday. “CCECC stop cheating us, pay us our pay-offs,” “CCECC, we are not slaves, pay us,” and “We need our pay-off, it is our right,” read some of the placards. Seven additional terrorists camps were yesterday destroyed as more terrorists also died in the ongoing onslaught to flush them out of Sambisa Forest, according to the Defence Headquarters. An additional 25 women and children were rescued in the process. Troops captured camps in the area after scaling series of land mines in continuation of the assault on the forest bases of the terrorists. Gunmen have kidnapped a paramount ruler in the ancient Nembe Kingdom, Chief Gogo Lambert, the Amayanabo of Biokponga community, Nembe Local Government Area, Bayelsa State. According to reports, the gunmen invaded the community at 11:30p.m. on Tuesday and abducted the traditional ruler after shooting sporadically into the air. The monarch, who was said to be fast asleep when the gunmen got to his residence was woken up by them before they whisked him away in a waiting speedboat. The abduction was confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat. He said the victim was taken away from his community in Nembe-Bassambiri. According to him, police got the report of the incident from the son of the victim, M. Udua on Wednesday.
