Senate gets Buhari’s list of ministers today.

It is certain that the list of ministers is ready, and President Muhammadu Buhari has directed that the prized document should be submitted immediately to the Senate, which resumes from its six-week break, today. The list was said to contain the names of people like former Rivers State Governor, Mr Rothman Chibuike Amaechi; a former president of the Nigerian Bar Association, Rotimi Akeredolu; former Army Chief, Lt-Gen. Abdul rahman Dambazzau, and activist lawyer, Femi Falana, among others. It was gathered, yesterday, that President Buhari handed the list to his Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang, and directed him to forward it to the Senate President. The National Leader of All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has said the present administration cannot gloss over certain things in its fight against corruption if the nation must make progress. The APC leader was making reference to the ongoing trial of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki by the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT. Senators: we won’t change our opinion of Sarak

A group of senators yesterday expressed support for embattled Senate President Bukola Saraki in his ongoing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). In a statement signed by Senator Ibrahim Abdullahi Danbaba (Sokoto South) on behalf of others, the lawmakers said the trial was mischievous, vindictive and politically motivated. SSS Gets List of New Ministers from Buhari, Begins Screening

The Department of State Services has commenced the screening of ministerial nominees sent to the agency by President Muhammadu Buhari. No fewer than 20 nominees had already been vetted by the DSS. The President was said to have sent to the agency a total of 36 names of would-be ministers for checks. The identities of nominees were top secret before now. But some of the expected names made the list. There will be some new names from the North and the South-West. The South East will get known names of the few who supported Buhari from the geo-political zone. Some of the names on the list included those who worked with Buhari when he was in the military and during his stint as the chairman of the defunct Petroleum Trust Fund, as well as in politics. Banks Begin Massive Sack Over Treasury Single Account

Commercial banks in Nigeria have commenced laying off some of their staff, following the federal government directive to ministries and agencies for a Treasury Single Account. Nigerian commercial banks, it was learnt, can no longer afford to keep their staff, as ministries and agencies of government have commenced withdrawal of their deposits in commercial banks, in compliance with federal government directive. A source who is a top management staff of one of the first generation banks told leadership Weekend on condition of anonymity that only two days ago, his bank laid off one thousand staff nationwide adding that the mostly affected in the downsizing exercise are desk officers. The source told our correspondent that, closure of government accounts with commercial banks has left the banks with no other option than to reduce its work force.
